PREŠERNOV DAN CELEBRATION - February 2010
February 6, 2010 at 4pm
The Church of St. Cyril
62 St. Mark's Place (E 8th St.)
New York, NY 10003

Prešernov (Kulturni) Dan event was a wonderful celebration of community and culture which included a tasting of Slovenian wines provided by TriWines, recital and a surprise grab bag afterwards. We had 35 attendees!

Thank you to Marta Stemberger and her students for a lovely program that included a short recital of Slovene folk songs and reciting Prešeren’s "Zdravljica" (The Toast) and Gregorčič’s "Veseli pastir" (Merry Sheppard), accompanied on the keyboard by Lenart Krečič. It was great to see that the students represent a variety of ages! Branch 93 members Elizabeth Gross and Emily Harling are in the beginner class. Rick Petkovsek, brother of our member Stephanie Petkovsek, is in the intermediate class.

Thank you to Erika Bruno, Elizabeth Gross and Ria (Polajner) Whitmire for their help with all the planning and arrangements (plus appetizer and dessert donations). Thank you to Sonja Mosquin for her apple strudel. And a special thank you to our newcomer, Gaja Zornada, who jumped right into help and took care of eveyone at the door. Thanks, also, to Elizabeth Gross for the grab bag idea after the recital! There were a lot of gifts so many people took home a prize.

It was good to see branch members Lucia Klansek, Alenka Ravnik-List and Cynthia Shaw Simonoff too! It was good to see a nice turn-out from the Slovenian community.
